IT Spending Down; Great News for Telecommunications

Several articles I’ve run across lately are forecasting a downturn in spending for IT departments. This is largely due to the economic recession of course. Many companies have cut costs where they can during the first couple years of the recession, but now they’re reaching down further with the looming of a slowing global economy.

Technology is what gives a company the edge, competition, and advantage and in most circumstances is not wise to make cuts to such an important area within a company. However, it’s understandable that companies must do what they have to do to merely survive in this atmosphere.

The GOOD NEWS is telecommunications is getting more advanced by the day, month, year…AND costs are getting lower. How is telecommunications lowering costs? The answer is making your money work for you- stripping out the unnecessary technology and making a plan specifically that meets your needs- a perfect fit, NWMAP agents like to call it. Telecom agencies like NWMAP are pros at solutions- they are not trying to sell you what you don’t need. NWMAP is a master agent program in which telecom agents are working for you and even providing free bill reviews, suggestions, and plans that will help you get the most for your dollar.

You can still make communications within your company a priority. Most companies don’t even know they could be saving money and getting updated technology or better services and systems. A lot of companies don’t think to question their telecom providers and they could be carrying around a lot of dead weight with technology they don’t need. On the flip-side many are stuck and believe they have to have outdated products and think the cost of updating will be too much. All wrong!

Please find out how you can save money and get more for your money. It is possible. Contact us: https://nwmap.com/contact-us or request a quote: https://nwmap.com/contact-us/request-quote

Telecom in the News: April 2012

NWMAP likes to review the top Telecom news stories for each month. This is what was happening in March and April.

Other news:

Communications network provider MegaPath Corp.’s aggressive Ethernet over Copper buildout has put the carrier among the nation’s largest providers of EoC service.

In the past year, MegaPath has aggressively expanded its EoC footprint. In September, it announced it would provide service nationwide.

Windstream is offering new disastor recovery service. The drive here is about unburdening a business from having to build their own disaster recovery capabilities themselves. By handing these processes to Windstream, they can replicate and recover critical servers and data center infrastructure in the cloud at a lower cost.

Integra Telecom is adding another page to its growing medium-to-large business service cookbook by launching a new set of optical wavelength services. Targeted at large enterprises, health care, and financial service companies, the new service provides metro-area and long-haul private networking for a set of customers that want high-bandwidth, dedicated network transport between their locations. Delivered over Integra’s DWDM-based fiber network, the focus is on providing customers flexibility and choice. They get the service with either a TDM or Ethernet interface in increments of 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, or 10 Gbps.

In April, EarthLink Business will unveil IT services for smaller, single locations. The provider has offered an enterprise version but wanted to target other organization sizes as well.

Cloud computing and services is all the buzz. Cloud computing service delivery has a strong business case that includes cost reduction, service acceleration, and improved service delivery quality and reliability. Before developing the business case, however, it is necessary to define cloud services because the term cloud has been overused.

Optimism in the Workplace

During a recession or in difficult economic times, it’s been revealed that employees are more unhappy with their jobs. This goes against what most of us would think. Wouldn’t people be happy they have a job when so many others don’t or when there is a shortage of jobs in the U.S, land of plenty? During a recession people also spend more money on entertainment. And you’d think we couldn’t afford those things if we are struggling just paying for the basics.

What does all this information tell us? People usually work harder for the same wages during a recession- maybe they’re doing the job of two people instead of one. Currently there is probably a lot of unhappy workers and workplace negativity. People want to be happy right now- they spend money to cheer themselves up rather than pay bills.

How do you create optimism in the workplace?

  • Diagnose unhappiness. Find out what is making employees unhappy.
  • Set attainable goals  that everyone can get involved with.
  • Many companies are trying to cut costs, but unhappy workers take more sick days, steal things from the company, and wasted more time at work. It’s best to give employees incentives, contests, rewards, recognitions, and ways they can earn even a small bonus. This seems like you are spending more money, but it will save you.
  •  Turn extra work into a project they can feel a part of and proud to accomplish.
  • If you are manager, CEO, CIO, or any level of management, remember you set the tone for the company. Smile more yourself.

Business Tips from Albert Einstein

Business and technology are typically synonymous with the future. We don’t even have time for living in the present when it comes to technology, we are already thinking of the future. We rarely look back if only to know how to improve upon and update some form of technology. For the most part, we don’t want to look back so what could Einstein have to offer our 21st century world of business technology?

Wisdom should not be underrated when it comes to business. Einstein was ahead of his time with wisdom applicable to many areas, including business.

Albert Einstein said, “Try not to become a man of success but rather to become a man of value.” What value does your business offer the industry? What value do you hold for your customers? People want to know what value is in your business, what you will bring to them.

Simple may not be a word that comes to mind when we think about Einstein. But he once said, “Everything should be made as simple as possible but not any simpler”. Telecom should be about customers getting what they want the way they want it. Nothing should be made more difficult than it has to be. Telecom should make business easier, more efficient. We’re in the business of solutions. When technology becomes overwhelming to manage and use, then it’s not serving its intended purpose.
